Here we see mackey again attacking something Confederate. Not noting new for him. This time it appears to be name J. E. B. Stuart High School in Falls Church, VA to Thurgood Marshall High School.
The reasoning behind this move is of course no other than “the Confederacy fought to preserve slavery.” And of of all things gen. Stuart owned slaves. Well first of all not one single person has been able to prove the Confederacy fought to preserve slavery. Despite all the evidence that proves otherwise, idiots still scream this lie at the top of their lung.
J.E.B. Stuart owned slaves. Well so didn’t Grant? So did many men who fought for the Union. However according to Wikipedia at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._E._B._Stuart we find this statement–
The couple owned two slaves until 1859, one inherited from his father’s estate, the other purchased
The Source is listed as Wert, pp. 30–31.(Wert, Jeffry D. Cavalryman of the Lost Cause: A Biography of J.E.B. Stuart. New York: Simon & Schuster, 2008. ISBN 978-0-7432-7819-5.)
Now I just love this statement from Julianne Moore and Bruce Cohen, whoever they are–
Since the Charleston shootings, some high-profile alumni of the school joined the effort to change the name. Julianne Moore. a 1978 graduate, and Bruce Cohen, a 1979 graduate, support changing the school name. The two wrote in a joint statement, “No one should have to apologize for the name of the public high school you attended and the history of racism it represents, as we and so many alumni of Stuart have felt the need to do our whole lives.”
I gotta say Ms Moore and Mr. Cohen are absolutely right no one should apologize for a school name. They should learn some real history, present a factual argument and stop displaying their ignorance in public places.
Now the effort is to change this name to Thurgood Marshall High School, a member of the NAACP and civil rights activists, Supreme Court Judge. So how is this better? We take down and change one segment of the countries history and heritage for another to be politically correct.
Make some sense of it.
